Virginia Society - Recent Events SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING ELECTS NEW MANAGEMENT, THANKS OLD Tuesday 3 May 2005, another beautifully sunny afternoon at Virginia House, saw the election of new officers and three members of the Board of Managers, the retirement of its 48th President, Colonel J.E.B. Stuart IV, along with three members of the Board, as well as recognition of three Past Presidents for their years of service. The Members present also unanimously accepted the report of the Board’s Nominating Committee, headed by retiring President Stuart, and elected Samuel B. Witt III as the Society’s newest President, along with the slate of officers set forth below. Before relinquishing the Gavel and other Insignias of Office to Mr. Witt, Colonel Stuart reported on the Society’s successful year just ended, accepted the Report of the Audit Committee as presented by Chairman and Past President Madison McClintic, and announced the Board’s decision to appoint Marvin Heffner as Historian Emeritus off the Society, following almost forty years of service to the Society. Mr. Witt then presented Past Presidents of the Society Hobson Goddin, R. Harvey Chappell, Jr., Miles Cary and Colonel Stuart with a silver bowl and the Society’s thanks for their years of service, and the Meeting adjourned.
